There’s something special about opening a book. At The Avenues Crofton Park in Broomfield, books have opened far more than pages—they’ve opened doors to connection, curiosity and joy.
The Avenues Book Club is a newly formed, resident-led group with 11 active members who meet every four to five weeks. About half the members in the group have never participated in a book club before. Some are lifelong readers thrilled to feed their love of literature, while others are rediscovering the simple joy of reading. One member, who hadn’t picked up a novel in years, renewed her library card and has finished seven books since January—three of them personal picks inspired by her renewed enthusiasm.
But the magic of the club goes beyond characters and plot twists. The real highlight? Community conversation.
“Half the enjoyment of reading a book is being able to discuss it with others, often gaining new insights and perspectives,” said Avenues Crofton Park resident Mary Ann G.
“Lively discussions foster critical thinking and provide much-needed social interaction. This is the part of reading that exercises our brains and offers an escape from daily life.”
The Avenues Book Club wouldn’t be possible without the Broomfield Library’s Adult Book Bag Program. This valuable local resource provides eight to 10 copies of a selected title along with discussion guides, making it easy to launch and enhance the club experience. It was the perfect jumpstart for this growing group of readers.
Behind the scenes, The Avenues’ management team plays a supportive role—offering meeting space, encouraging new participants, and creating an inclusive environment where residents feel empowered to engage and explore something new.
The 55+ community also boasts a well-stocked, resident-managed library where residents can donate and borrow books. With cozy indoor and outdoor seating, lots of natural light, and a steady stream of new titles, The Avenues makes it easy to enjoy the many mental and emotional benefits of reading in a comfortable setting.
For residents, The Avenues Book Club is more than just a hobby, it’s a chance to grow, connect and be inspired.
Because sometimes, opening a book is the first step to opening your mind.
