The Avenues Crofton Park 55+ Living in Broomfield Celebrates 10 YearsIn the summer of 2014, Emily B. became the first resident at a unique and new 55+ community in Broomfield, The Avenues Crofton Park. The community was a culmination of lots of research about what seniors wanted, finding a great location between Boulder and Denver, and attracting seniors who wanted spacious living quarters, opportunities for activities and socialization, and all-inclusive pricing that didn’t push residents into having to purchase lots of extra services that, frankly, many didn’t want.

Developed by The McBroom Company, The Avenues Crofton Park’s Senior Boutique Living model balances resident-driven activities and features with access to nearby Broomfield amenities, such as an excellent Broomfield Paul Derda Recreation Center and open space trails at Metzger Farms adjacent to the property. Since it opened, the community has been operated by The Avenues Company LLC, The McBroom Company’s exclusive property management company for The Avenues Senior Boutique Living brand.

“I moved in on August 24, 2014, and I was the first one here,” said Emily. “I really like it here. I grew up in nearby Thorton and raised a family in Littleton. I wanted to move to Broomfield to be closer to my son, a paramedic in Northglenn, his wife and their growing family. That has worked out well.”

What resonated with local seniors – and eventually those that moved from around the nation to be near their adult children – was that the community offered many options, such as 14 unique floor plans, including cottages and apartments, and that the community was pleasantly sized, with just 70 apartments and 20 cottages. What also appealed to residents was the spacious living areas and upscale appliances and eco-friendly building practices. And while few will say that car parking was their priority, many have become very fond of the climate-controlled underground garage and storage units.

The focus on quality construction and eco-friendly practices paid off right away, with The Avenues Crofton Park earning a national design award from the National Association of Home Builders in 2016 and also a Bronze National Green Building Standard certificate from Home Innovation Research Labs. In addition, for two consecutive years The Avenues won “Best Retirement Community” in the Broomfield Enterprise newspaper’s annual People’s Choice Awards.

Managing Partner, Len McBroom, says the team that planned, designed and built The Avenues Crofton Park did not cut corners when it came to materials, building practices and amenities. Research indicates discerning seniors know the difference. The spacious apartments and cottages include modern kitchens with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and pantries as well as walk-in showers, walk-in closets, high-efficiency washers and dryers, and private covered balconies or patios. Community amenities include an outdoor living space with a fire pit, grill, outdoor kitchen and sitting areas bordered by a water feature; open demonstration kitchen; events room; fitness center with yoga space; community gardens; billiard lounge and game room; private dining room and catering kitchen; library; onsite management and concierge services.

Beyond the building and its many amenities, what stands out to staff and residents are the good times at the annual Luaus and Casino Nights; friendly card, chess or billboard matches; weekly socials hours; outdoor barbecues; planning and maintaining a beautiful community vegetable garden; ongoing exercise and educational programs; and more.

Even during the trying times of the pandemic, residents at The Avenues felt comfortable knowing they had friendly neighbors to chat with, a group to knit with outside, nearby trails to walk, while also receiving help getting groceries, maintenance and support, and a comfortable place to live while people were cooped up nationwide.

“It’s been an exciting and sometimes unpredictable 10 years,” McBroom said. “But through 10 years, I believe we accomplished what we set out to do in creating a beautiful place for older adults to live with a resident-centric, lifestyle menu of services and programs.”

Located at 12431 King Court in Broomfield, The Avenues Crofton Park will be hosting several events this fall with residents to mark this milestone, including creating and burying a time capsule that will be uncovered in another 10 years.
