To celebrate the haunting holiday, Avenues staff organized the first-ever Murder Mystery Party, a prime example of how the award-winning 55+ independent living community provides ongoing opportunities for residents to socialize, get creative and try new things. The Avenues loves to encourage residents to express themselves and have fun, and this live-action mystery game offered everyone the chance to take a “stab” at acting.
Around 70 residents participated in the killer event, which was put on by local events group The Murder Mystery Company. After the troupe of professional actors staged the murderous main event and assigned “suspects,” residents split into groups to find out whodunnit and uncover clues, all while remaining in character.
“The residents were excited to do something they hadn’t done before. It was amazing to see so much participation — even our more laidback residents were coming out of their shells,” said Property Manager Corné Lewis. “The Murder Mystery Company did an outstanding job of getting into character and so did our residents. They absolutely loved it!”
In the end, while no one correctly guessed who played the murderer, there were still prizes for best resident investigator and guests were treated to beverages, desserts and sandwiches. The thrilling day also featured a Halloween costume and candy counting contest: residents Robert, who showed up in a full gorilla suit, and Richere, who styled herself as an old man, both received an award for best costume.
