A
s we begin a new year at The Avenues Crofton Park, we look back fondly on celebrating our third Broomfield County Gold win with our wonderful residents and staff. At the same time, we continue to evaluate how best to meet the housing and lifestyle needs of adults approaching or enjoying retirement. As a unique 55+ independent living community in Broomfield, Colorado, here are a few insights we’ve gained since the community opened in 2014.
What Active Residents Want
- Adults aged 55–75 seek active, maintenance-free living with upscale amenities, and they don’t want the institutional feel of traditional retirement communities.
- Location matters. Living in Broomfield gives Avenues residents convenient access to Boulder and the Denver Metro area for day trips, as well as easy routes to the mountains and Denver International Airport for longer lock-and-leave adventures.
- As most homeowners know, maintaining a home requires significant time, effort and expense. While there’s nothing wrong with that, many adults entering a new chapter are ready to hand off those responsibilities and costs to someone else so they can focus on hobbies, interests, family and relationships.
- To capitalize on their homeownership investment and use that equity differently. Many Avenues residents who sold longtime homes in Boulder and Broomfield counties saw significant returns. These proceeds have allowed them to invest in new priorities and comfortably cover rent, health expenses and more using Social Security, retirement accounts and other income sources.
- To reduce clutter and simplify their lives. When older adults downsize—or as many call it “rightsize”—they often realize there are only so many belongings they truly treasure. Letting go of having to maintain, store and keep track of excess possessions becomes a welcome relief.
- To be closer to family. Many residents have wanted to live close to their adult children and grandchildren, while still having a comfortable retreat of their own when they want quiet time.
- Research consistently shows that social connections are essential to healthy aging. Many of our residents love getting to know their neighbors and enjoy sharing games, hobbies, conversation and community activities together.
What They Appreciate About The Avenues
Residents at The Avenues Crofton Park are not shy about sharing what they like or want with our leadership team. We value this feedback to help us meet their needs as well as the needs of future residents. Here are some general themes we’ve heard from residents over the years.
- They like the fact that we are independently owned and locally managed. And they like having easy access to our concierge and management team to share feedback openly.
- They enjoy that their feedback is heard, not fed up the line to a corporate office that may or may not get back to them. There is a personal touch at The Avenues that has been nurtured for years, which has led many of our residents to call our community home since we opened over a decade ago.
- They appreciate that we have strong community ties, from participating in our local chamber of commerce, to supporting local schools and nonprofits, to participating in local fairs, and hiring local staff and service providers who add vibrancy to our monthly activity calendar.
- Transparent, “no surprise” pricing. Our all-inclusive monthly rental fee covers the residence, parking, onsite storage, concierge services, activities, and utilities – so residents know exactly what to expect each month.
- They value our size and variety of apartment and cottage With 90 residences and 14 floor plans, residents have a lot to choose from. Our “Senior Boutique Living” model emphasizes thoughtful design and quality over quantity—reflected in the construction and principles used when building features like tempered underground parking, onsite storage, modern kitchens, and more. While we have fewer residents than most 55+ communities, we take pride in maintaining higher standards.
- They appreciate that they set the tone for their day and the community. Their feedback helps shape the type of fitness and educational events we host, the quiet common spaces – inside and outside – that allow them to relax or be social, and the ability to have privacy or jump into a resident-driven event as they desire.
As we move into 2026, we look forward to building on the success we’ve achieved and the new changes coming. We have some special updates to the community planned for the new year, changes that will enhance the look, feel and opportunities for residents.
As part of its Senior Boutique Living model, The Avenues Crofton Park helps facilitate a variety of programs and activities for residents – but residents set the course, and our job is to help support these interests.
