Studies have found that art significantly improves our living environment, which can reduce stress, trigger pleasure and foster connections. As it moves into its second decade of providing award-winning senior boutique living in Broomfield, Colorado, The Avenues Crofton Park took impressive measures in 2026 to maintain its position as a step above the competition for adults 55 and older by refreshing its physical spaces inside and out.
This extensive refresh included vibrant interior and exterior paint colors that celebrate life and challenge the norms of senior living design, along with new furnishings, window treatments and carpeting in shared spaces, as well as apartment upgrades, including new appliances and lighting.
Most importantly, though, The Avenues Crofton Park made a big investment in art with welcoming, cheerful and Colorado-inspired works throughout the renovated community, said Grant Adams, a senior curator with NINE dot ARTS in Denver.
NINE dot ARTS, a firm that helped with the original art curation at The Avenues in 2014, collaborated with The Avenues’ leadership team, interior designer Ingrid Fraley of Design Services, and color consultant Luyda Grigorieva of Godden | Sudik architects, to develop the vision for the art from project renovation planning to art installation.
The Avenues’ Art Collection Features Colorado Artists
The art expansion at The Avenues Crofton Park features more than 30 new art pieces—including prints, paintings, ceramics, and photography—displayed throughout the community’s shared spaces. Much of the original artwork was also relocated and thoughtfully curated throughout the building to evoke meaningful life experiences and memories for residents. The result is a vibrant, engaging environment that can be enjoyed by everyone who lives and works in the community.
“The goal of The Avenues’ art program is to enhance the existing space, complement the updated design, and fill out the corridors and shared spaces with memorable artworks,” Adams said. “The collection features welcoming and cheerful pieces that enhance the visitor experience and fit in with the existing art collection while adding to the creative placemaking of the space,” he added.
It was important to all stakeholders involved in the art selection that the collection feel fun and Colorado-centric. To that end, NINE dot ARTS sought artwork from artists throughout the state, including Carol Fennell, a Denver-based mixed media artist whose dimensional wall pieces layer paint, wood, clay, paper, and found objects. The Avenues incorporated a beautiful series of large, painted ceramic tiles created by Fennell that are prominently displayed in the lobby.
The new color palette in the shared community spaces draws inspiration from Colorado’s diverse landscapes, from charming small-town communities to majestic mountains and expansive plains. The brighter paint in the community, serving as a backdrop for the art, had a dramatic effect, Adams noted. “It gave the original art in the common spaces new life. And by moving some pieces to new locations in the building, it was almost like they were new.
“With so much colorful art in the community now, we wanted all residents to be able to walk out their apartment door and find something they can enjoy,” he said.
Open House Unveils Renovation Upgrades
The Avenues Crofton Park will host an Open House on Tuesday, October 20, at 11 a.m. to celebrate the completed renovation. At the Open House, leadership will unveil new artwork, furnishings and other enhancements throughout the community. Guests will also have an opportunity to tour a model apartment, see updated amenities and experience thoughtfully designed gathering spaces.
At 11:30 a.m., members of the Broomfield Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the completion of this significant undertaking.
